Quick Overview

Melanie Hava´s paintings draw their inspiration from her Aboriginal and Austrian heritage. Raised in the Far North Queensland region, her upbringing was steeped in Aboriginal lore and her paintings reflect her spiritual connection with the tropical rain-forests and the creatures of the Barrier Reef.
In her early twenties, Melanie felt that her paintings should celebrate both cultures. As a result, she went to live with her father´s family in Austria where she learned about European traditions. She was particularly impressed with Austrian architecture, aspects of which she has incorporated into her work.

Details

This artwork is inspired by the spirit of kinship. The artist, Melanie Hava, was raised in the outback where she would often see emus travelling through the long grasses. Occasionally, she would observe two males joining forces to protect their chicks. This banding together in kinship to feed and protect their mob echoes the way aboriginals once lived.
